Summer Rising Program
We are excited to announce that PS/MS 89 will be hosting the in person Summer Rising Program at our school building this summer.
To help us begin planning for the program, please complete this brief PS/MS 89 survey to let us know you are interested in enrolling your child. If you have more than one child attending, please complete a survey for each child.
Please note there is also a NYC DOE survey that you will need to complete if interested in registering your child in the program. PS 89 Staff will be contacting families interested in the program to assist with the NYC DOE survey if needed.
Information About The Summer Rising Program:
Summer Rising is New York City’s free school-based summer program for any City child in grades K–8. Summer Rising will integrate the strengths of DOE academics with the Department of Youth & Community Development’s (DYCD) school-based enrichment programming. Students in grades K–8 will get outside, learn, and engage with peers and caring adults in safe, supervised, and enriching ways. These programs will provide a bridge to the next school year and allow students to reconnect with one another and with their schools. Students will address unfinished learning while being provided avenues for recreation, exploration, and fun.
Grades K–5: July 6 to August 20 (except July 20), Monday–Friday, 8AM–6PM
Grades 6–8: July 6 to August 12 (except July 20), Monday–Thursday, 8AM–4PM

NYC Schools Account
Parents and Guardians: We’ve made it easier to sign up for a NYC Schools Account (NYCSA). Setting up a basic account will allow you to get emergency notifications from the DOE.
You can create a basic account online from any computer, phone, or tablet. All you need to do is:
· Go to https://mystudent.nyc/saa/signup
· Set up the account by:
o Entering your name and email address,
o creating a password, and
o answering a few brief security questions so you can reset the password if you forget it.
After you create your account, you will need to verify your identity and your relationship to that student. Once you do that you will be able to see your child’s grades, test scores, and attendance.
NYC Reads 365
NYC Reads 365 is a citywide program aimed at encouraging children to read for fun by helping them find interesting high-quality books for independent reading.
The centerpiece of NYC Reads 365 is a collection of reading lists for students, including—for the first time ever—books recommended by students, families, NYCDOE educators, and community members. School communities shared their suggestions via an open survey in the fall of 2019, leading to lists that reflect a wide range of diverse perspectives, genres, formats, styles, and subject matter.
Learn about new books, find out how you can support your child in becoming an engaged and lifelong reader, and help your child find a great book to read. Together, we are making New York City a community of readers — 365 days a year!
